Our Guides

Andre Steenkamp is a qualified environmental educator and nature guide with 21 years experience in the field.
He is passionate about sharing our spectacular natural heritage and has worked in our diverse ecosystems, from the highlands to the sea!
Andre picked up a lot of experience working for WESSA (6years) as an education officer, project manager and lecturer @ DUT and BirdLife South Africa (5 years) as manager of their Wakkerstroom Tourism and Education Centre.
He has worked with tens of thousands of students and tourists, offering curriculum aligned outdoor lessons for schools and universities or taking tourists for a stroll – all this with an energy and enthusiasm that inspires!
Lastly, Andre has trained guides and environmental educators from all over Africa and far, far away.
During one of Breathe Conservation’s reef clean-up events, local Jama Bulwana, developed an interest in the organisation and its values.
The team at Breathe recognized his passion and connection for environmental education work. Not long after their first meeting, Jama began the intensive Marine Guide training program and became certified with an NQF2 qualification endorsed by FGASA (Field Guide Association of South Africa.)
Jama’s skills, personality, and experience are invaluable to Breathe Conservation. He has been an incredible Marine Guide and is now upgrading to a full Nature Conservation Guide. He is looking forward to sharing his passion and knowledge with the community!
