LIVE DEEPLY, TREAD LIGHTLY

Don’t count the days, make the days count

by | Aug 10, 2018 | Physiotherapy

Some of you may know I have been doing a countdown. Each week I have a quote to help motivate me for the week. This week’s quote is one of my favourites. It is quite ironic considering that I am doing a countdown, counting down the days, when this weeks’ quote says quite the opposite.

I am very aware of the importance of embracing each day as a gift and not getting caught up in the end goal due to the fragile and unpredictable nature of life. Whilst I am an advocate of goal setting and it is one of the things that drives me, it is not what defines me.

I am privileged to be able to earn a living doing something that I love and mould my passions around my work. It is not something I take for granted. I constantly come into contact with people who feel bound to a job that sucks all life out of them or people who are jobless which is a stark reminder of the privileged position I am in.

There are days and sometimes weeks where life gets super hard, motivation is lost, injuries happen and health fails. It is in these times that having a goal help to keep me focused and be able to keep going and get back up again. So while counting the days should not be a focus, it does come in handy when things get tough.

I am grateful for each client

So as I head into the Festive holiday season and I am counting down the days, I am grateful for each client that walks through my door to allow me some time off work. I am taking an unplanned break from training, but I will still be doing some swims to just keep me ticking over for the New Year. There is no rest when you have set your sights on such a big goal and have to still try and be intentional on making every day count.
